METZ Lock is your key to Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) security!
If you're concerned with:
* Unauthorized access
* Accidental damage or destruction to your valuable programs and data
* Protecting confidential information on your system
* Security while running DOS Applications under Windows
then...
METZ Lock is your solution. It's effective, easy to use, unobtrusive--and
uses very little memory. If you use Novell(R) Netware, METZ Lock works
right along with it. METZ Lock can detect and use your Novell password, if
you like. Use METZ Lock to change your Novell password or, if you prefer,
use separate Novell and METZ Lock passwords.
With METZ Lock, you can prevent unauthorized use of your system, yet
allow applications to continue to run in the background. You can even
set up METZ Lock to prevent system rebooting with CTRL-ALT-DEL. A
comprehensive set of options keeps you in control of system access. You
can lock up every time you start Windows, at the same time every day,
or whenever your system has remained idle for a specified amount of time.
You can even use METZ Lock as a customizable Screen Saver, whether you
lock up your system or not.
With the help of a special memory-resident program, METZKW.SYS, you'll even
be able to work in an MS-DOS window without interruption. If you need
additional security at the MS-DOS system level, you can use PC-Watchman
ACS, a special MS-DOS security application designed in cooperation with
Harcom Security Systems, Inc. (See below.)

-----------------------------PC WATCHMAN ACS---------------------------
METZ Software has also designed PCW-Lock, security software which works
in conjunction with Harcom Security Systems, Inc.'s line of security
products. PC-Watchman ACS (Access Control Software) makes it practical
to install company-wide PC security, even when there are thousands
of PC's to protect. With PC-Watchman ACS, you can avoid high implentation
costs, vulnerability to being bypassed by skilled users, and complex
installation and administration procedures.
ACS provides absolute password-protected control over system booting,
which cannot be circumvented even by booting from a floppy. ACS blanks
the screen after periods of inactivity in either MS-DOS or Windows
applications. A user-defined dialog can be used by users who forget
their passwords and a secure "Institutional Backdoor" provides for
administrative access, when the authorized user is unavailable.
Compatible with all versions of MS-DOS from 2.11 through 5.0, as well as
with Microsoft Windows, ACS is recommended for use on standalone PC's,
network workstations, and laptop computers. ACS sells for $59 per unit
with discounts for high volume customers. Harcom provides technical support
at no additional cost. For more information, contact METZ Software or:

----------------------METZ LOCK APPLICATION NOTES------------------------
1. Novell Netware Support
METZ Lock 3.1 supports Novell Netware passwords. If you
have a password-protected Novell network installed, Lock can
automatically detect your Novell password and use it as the
default METZ Lock password.
Uncheck the Use Novell Password checkbox on the METZ Lock
Configuration dialog box, if you do not want to use your Novell
password as your METZ Lock password.
NOTE: Note the following about using Novell passwords:
A. When you change your METZ Lock password, your
Novell password will change, too.
B. If you want to use METZ Lock but you do not want
to password-protect your Novell network, be sure
to keep the Use Novell Password checkbox unchecked.
Otherwise, your METZ Lock password will become your
Novell network password.
C. Unlike METZ Lock passwords, Novell network passwords
do not appear encrypted in the "CRX=" line of the
WIN.INI file. You will not be able to remove a
Novell password by editing the WIN.INI file. If you
forget your Novell password, you will need to contact
your network administrator.
2. Using METZ Lock with Non-Windows Applications
If you run DOS applications under Microsoft Windows, and are
having problems with the password dialog activating while you are
working in the DOS window, make sure that METZKW.SYS is installed
in your CONFIG.SYS file. This driver (METZKW.SYS) detects activity
in your DOS application. Your CONFIG.SYS file should contain a
line reading:
device=c:\windows\system\metzkw.sys (or the appropriate path)
Don't forget to reboot if you have just made the changes to
your CONFIG.SYS file.
3. Technical Information about METZKW.SYS.
METZKW.SYS uses only 1232 bytes of memory.
METZKW.SYS can be loaded high.
METZKW.SYS has the following optional parameters:
/NOCAD - disables CTRL-ALT-DEL at the DOS level.
/NOMAT - disables mouse tracking, should there be a conflict
If you were to add both options to your CONFIG.SYS, they would
appear as follows:
device=c:\windows\system\metzkw.sys /NOCAD /NOMAT
4. Adjusting the METZ Lock Screen Saver Bitmap Display Interval
If you wish to adjust the rate at which METZ Lock moves
the Screen Saver bitmap around the screen, add the following
line to the METZ Lock section of your WIN.INI file:
[METZ Lock]
bmpdelay=##
where ## is the number of seconds you want to wait before the
bitmap is moved again.
5. The METZ Lock Program Files
You have received either LK.EXE or LOCK.ZIP, archive files containing
the following METZ Lock prgram files and other important information:
LOCK.EXE - The METZ Lock program (required)
LOCK.HLP - The METZ Lock program Help file
METZ.DLL - METZ Software dynamic link library (required)
LOCK.TXT - The METZ Lock information file you are now reading
VKD.386 - Virtual Keyboard Driver
METZ.ORD - METZ Software order form
METZPROD.TXT - METZ Software product descriptions
METZKW.SYS - METZ memory resident MS-DOS program that
provides Screen Saver support
NWCONN.DLL - Novell dynamic link library (required for Novell
support)
NWCORE.DLL - Novell dynamic link library (required for Novell
support)
NWMISC.DLL - Novell dynamic link library (required for Novell
support)
6. Installing METZ Lock
To install and set up METZ Lock on your system:
1. Unpack or unarchive the METZ Lock program files and move them
to the directory where you want to keep them.
2. Add LOCK.EXE to the "load" or "run" line of your WIN.INI file.
3. The first time you start METZ Lock, choose the Configure...
command from the Lock System menu to set your preferences and
password. You may change them again any time you need to.
7. Command Line Options
You can add the following command line options whenever you load
METZ Lock:
/H or /h - Hide the METZ Lock program icon
/L or /l - Automatically lock or blank the screen when METZ Lock runs
8. Using METZ Lock
The METZ Lock program icon is a key and a keyhole. The first time you
start METZ Lock, you'll have to enter and confirm a password. Once you've
entered a password, METZ Lock will continue to use it until you change it
again. METZ Lock passwords are case-sensitive--so be sure to type in
the exact combination of upper-case and lower-case characters.
All METZ Lock menu commands appear on its system menu. Experiment with the
options on the Configuration and Advanced Configuration dialog boxes until
you find the exact combination of settings that best meet your security
needs.
-------------------------METZ Lock Version History------------------------
This section describes major changes to each released version of METZ Lock.
Version 3.1d
* METZ Lock now supports third party extensions, allowing corporate
sites to maintain external password links. If your company
has additional security support requirements, please contact
METZ Software for details and customization information.
Version 3.1c
* METZKW.SYS now replaces METZTSR.COM and has the added ability to
detect mouse and keyboard activity in DOS applications.
* Lock now detects Microsoft Tutorial sessions and avoids the
conflicts they can cause.
* Lock is now cooperative with Windows 3.1 screen savers. If you
want to use a Windows 3.1 screen saver with Lock running, set the
Windows screen saver timeout to a value less than the Lock timeout
value. Please note, Windows screen savers will not timeout when
a DOS application is active. However, Lock will work while a DOS
application active.
Version 3.1b
* Updated product information, including information about
METZ retail software.
Version 3.1a
* Automatic support for Novell(R) Netware passwords. Lock now
automatically detects the presence of Novell Netware on your
system--and uses your Novell password. Novell users can disable
Netware support, if they prefer.
* When you unlock your system, METZ Lock no longer activates
applications that were iconic when the system was locked.
* The Screen Saver no longer asks for your password when some keys
are pressed.
* The About box now correctly prints the METZ Software order form.
Version 3.0
* This version is the first true Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) 3.0
application.
* METZ Lock 3.0 supports Windows 3.0 bitmaps. You can use Microsoft
Paintbrush to create bitmap images to display on the screen
while screen is blanked.
* Advanced configuration options have been added, including:
user-defined hotkeys, a "hide" option for the METZ Lock program icon,
and the capability to lock the system at a specific time.
You can specify the time the system will lock in either a
24 hour format or 12 hour format.
* A Window 3.0 help system has been added.
Version 1.52
* Corrections to the operation of the Screen Saver Only mode.
* Mouse sensitivity has been reduced to prevent the accidental
activation of the Password dialog box or the timeout of the Screen
Saver.
Version 1.51
* METZ blanks the screen by default. To change this, use the
Configuration dialog box.
* You can now prevent rebooting of the system with the
[Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Del] sequence by setting this option on the
Configuration screen. This option is supported in all Windows 3.0
modes (that is, Real, Standard, and Enhanced). METZ Lock MUST
be running to disable [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Del] under Windows.
The memory resident program METZKW.SYS allows you to prevent
rebooting from DOS.
* You must enter your password to access the Configuration dialog box.
This prevents unauthorized modification of your configuration.
* This version is compatible with Almanac version 1.04 and greater.
(Please contact Impact Software for information about receiving an
Almanac update.)
Version 1.41
* For added security, METZ Lock now automatically locks the system
if you try to run it a second time while the Lock option is turned
on. You can only run one copy of METZ Lock at a time.
* The printing of order forms from the About box has been fixed.
Version 1.4
* As of version 1.4, you can configure METZ Lock to act as a Screen
Saver without locking the system, by choosing the "Screen Saver only
mode" in the Configuration dialog box. Screen blanking will be
automatically turned on as well.
* This version prevents timeouts while you are working with an MS-DOS
application during a Windows session. Timeouts can only now if you
are inactive in any MS-DOS window as well. To prevent timeouts in
MS-DOS windows, you must install a special memory resident program
called METZKW.SYS.
* You can now double-click on the METZ Lock prgram icon with either
mouse button to activate lock.
* Previously, if the Screen blanking option was turned off, the Lock
dialog box always remained visible, potentially interfering with
other Screen Savers installed on your system. Now, the Lock dialog
box disappears after 20 seconds, and reappers whenever a key is
pressed or the mouse is moved.
Version 1.3
* The Lock and Hide command line options can now be configured in the
METZ Lock section of your WIN.INI file:
[METZ Lock] - METZ Lock WIN.INI section header
hide=Y - hides the METZ Lock program icon
lock=Y - locks the system when Window is started
* Lock now always remains in the foreground, even if another
application invokes a dialog box while running in the background.
* Additional changes insure that any keyboard or mouse activity
immediately activate the logon screen.
* Lock can now display a randomly moving bitmap on a blank screen.
Enter the bitmap filename in the Configuration dialog box.
Version 1.2
* The METZ Lock program icon was changed.
Version 1.16
* You can use a command line parameter to hide the METZ Lock program
from view while it is in use.
* METZ Lock now positions all dialog boxes in the middle of the screen.
Version 1.15

when the system was locked.

mouse button to lock your system.

activate Lock automatically after 1 to 60 minutes of inactivity.
* A new Trap mouse option will confine mouse activity to the Lock dialog
box while your system is locked.
