  94. METZ Software has also designed PCW-Lock, security software which works
  95. in conjunction with Harcom Security Systems, Inc.'s line of security
  96. products.  PC-Watchman ACS (Access Control Software) makes it practical
  97. to install company-wide PC security, even when there are thousands
  98. of PC's to protect.  With PC-Watchman ACS, you can avoid high implentation
  99. costs, vulnerability to being bypassed by skilled users, and complex
  100. installation and administration procedures.

  124. 1.  Novell Netware Support
  125.  
  126.     METZ Lock 3.1 supports Novell Netware passwords.  If you
  127. have a password-protected Novell network installed, Lock can
  128. automatically detect your Novell password and use it as the
  129. default METZ Lock password.
  130.     Uncheck the Use Novell Password checkbox on the METZ Lock
  131. Configuration dialog box, if you do not want to use your Novell
  132. password as your METZ Lock password.
  133.  
  134. NOTE:  Note the following about using Novell passwords:
  135.        A.  When you change your METZ Lock password, your
  136.            Novell password will change, too.
  137.        B.  If you want to use METZ Lock but you do not want
  138.            to password-protect your Novell network, be sure
  139.            to keep the Use Novell Password checkbox unchecked.
  140.            Otherwise, your METZ Lock password will become your
  141.            Novell network password.
  142.        C.  Unlike METZ Lock passwords, Novell network passwords
  143.            do not appear encrypted in the "CRX=" line of the
  144.            WIN.INI file.  You will not be able to remove a
  145.            Novell password by editing the WIN.INI file.  If you
  146.            forget your Novell password, you will need to contact
  147.            your network administrator.

  150. 2.  Using METZ Lock with Non-Windows Applications
  151.  
  152.    If you run DOS applications under Microsoft Windows, and are
  153. having problems with the password dialog activating while you are
  154. working in the DOS window, make sure that METZKW.SYS is installed
  155. in your CONFIG.SYS file.  This driver (METZKW.SYS) detects activity
  156. in your DOS application.  Your CONFIG.SYS file should contain a
  157. line reading:
  158.  
  159.    device=c:\windows\system\metzkw.sys (or the appropriate path)
  160.  
  161. Don't forget to reboot if you have just made the changes to
  162. your CONFIG.SYS file.
  163.  
  164.  
  165. 3.  Technical Information about METZKW.SYS.
  166.  
  167.     METZKW.SYS uses only 1232 bytes of memory.
  168.  
  169.     METZKW.SYS can be loaded high.
  170.  
  171.     METZKW.SYS has the following optional parameters:
  172.  
  173.     /NOCAD - disables CTRL-ALT-DEL at the DOS level.
  174.  
  175.     /NOMAT - disables mouse tracking, should there be a conflict
  176.  
  177.     If you were to add both options to your CONFIG.SYS, they would
  178. appear as follows:

  180.     device=c:\windows\system\metzkw.sys /NOCAD /NOMAT

  183. 4.  Adjusting the METZ Lock Screen Saver Bitmap Display Interval
  184.  
  185.     If you wish to adjust the rate at which METZ Lock moves
  186. the Screen Saver bitmap around the screen, add the following
  187. line to the METZ Lock section of your WIN.INI file:
  188.  
  189.           [METZ Lock]
  190.           bmpdelay=##
  191.  
  192. where ## is the number of seconds you want to wait before the
  193. bitmap is moved again.
  194.  
  195. 5.  The METZ Lock Program Files
  196.  
  197. You have received either LK.EXE or LOCK.ZIP, archive files containing
  198. the following METZ Lock prgram files and other important information:
  199.  
  200.      LOCK.EXE     -  The METZ Lock program                (required)

  216. 6.  Installing METZ Lock
  217.  
  218. To install and set up METZ Lock on your system:
  219.      1.  Unpack or unarchive the METZ Lock program files and move them
  220.          to the directory where you want to keep them.
  221.      2.  Add LOCK.EXE to the "load" or "run" line of your WIN.INI file.
  222.      3.  The first time you start METZ Lock, choose the Configure...
  223.          command from the Lock System menu to set your preferences and
  224.          password.  You may change them again any time you need to.
  225.  
  226. 7.  Command Line Options
  227.  
  228. You can add the following command line options whenever you load
  229. METZ Lock:
  230.      /H or /h  - Hide the METZ Lock program icon
  231.      /L or /l  - Automatically lock or blank the screen when METZ Lock runs
  232.  
  233. 8.  Using METZ Lock
  234.  
  235. The METZ Lock program icon is a key and a keyhole.  The first time you
  236. start METZ Lock, you'll have to enter and confirm a password.  Once you've
  237. entered a password, METZ Lock will continue to use it until you change it
  238. again.  METZ Lock passwords are case-sensitive--so be sure to type in
  239. the exact combination of upper-case and lower-case characters.
  240.  
  241. All METZ Lock menu commands appear on its system menu.  Experiment with the
  242. options on the Configuration and Advanced Configuration dialog boxes until
  243. you find the exact combination of settings that best meet your security
  244. needs.
  245.  
  246. -------------------------METZ Lock Version History------------------------
  247.  
  248. This section describes major changes to each released version of METZ Lock.
  249.  
  250. Version 3.1d
  251.    *  METZ Lock now supports third party extensions, allowing corporate
  252.       sites to maintain external password links.  If your company
  253.       has additional security support requirements, please contact
  254.       METZ Software for details and customization information.
  255.  
  256. Version 3.1c
  257.    *  METZKW.SYS now replaces METZTSR.COM and has the added ability to
  258.       detect mouse and keyboard activity in DOS applications.
  259.    *  Lock now detects Microsoft Tutorial sessions and avoids the
  260.       conflicts they can cause.
  261.    *  Lock is now cooperative with Windows 3.1 screen savers.  If you
  262.       want to use a Windows 3.1 screen saver with Lock running, set the
  263.       Windows screen saver timeout to a value less than the Lock timeout
  264.       value.  Please note, Windows screen savers will not timeout when
  265.       a DOS application is active.  However, Lock will work while a DOS
  266.       application active.

  269.    *  Updated product information, including information about
  270.       METZ retail software.

  273.    *  Automatic support for Novell(R) Netware passwords.  Lock now
  274.       automatically detects the presence of Novell Netware on your
  275.       system--and uses your Novell password.  Novell users can disable
  276.       Netware support, if they prefer.
  277.    *  When you unlock your system, METZ Lock no longer activates
  278.       applications that were iconic when the system was locked.
  279.    *  The Screen Saver no longer asks for your password when some keys
  280.       are pressed.
  281.    *  The About box now correctly prints the METZ Software order form.

  284.    *  This version is the first true Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) 3.0

  286.    *  METZ Lock 3.0 supports Windows 3.0 bitmaps.  You can use Microsoft
  287.       Paintbrush to create bitmap images to display on the screen
  288.       while screen is blanked.
  289.    *  Advanced configuration options have been added, including:
  290.       user-defined hotkeys, a "hide" option for the METZ Lock program icon,
  291.       and the capability to lock the system at a specific time.
  292.       You can specify the time the system will lock in either a
  293.       24 hour format or 12 hour format.
  294.    *  A Window 3.0 help system has been added.

  296. Version 1.52
  297.    *  Corrections to the operation of the Screen Saver Only mode.
  298.    *  Mouse sensitivity has been reduced to prevent the accidental
  299.       activation of the Password dialog box or the timeout of the Screen
  300.       Saver.

  302. Version 1.51
  303.    *  METZ blanks the screen by default.  To change this, use the
  304.       Configuration dialog box.
  305.    *  You can now prevent rebooting of the system with the
  306.       [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Del] sequence by setting this option on the
  307.       Configuration screen.  This option is supported in all Windows 3.0
  308.       modes (that is, Real, Standard, and Enhanced).  METZ Lock MUST
  309.       be running to disable [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Del] under Windows.
  310.       The memory resident program METZKW.SYS allows you to prevent
  311.       rebooting from DOS.
  312.    *  You must enter your password to access the Configuration dialog box.
  313.       This prevents unauthorized modification of your configuration.
  314.    *  This version is compatible with Almanac version 1.04 and greater.
  315.       (Please contact Impact Software for information about receiving an
  316.       Almanac update.)

  318. Version 1.41
  319.    *  For added security, METZ Lock now automatically locks the system
  320.       if you try to run it a second time while the Lock option is turned
  321.       on.  You can only run one copy of METZ Lock at a time.
  322.    *  The printing of order forms from the About box has been fixed.
  323.  
  324. Version 1.4
  325.    *  As of version 1.4, you can configure METZ Lock to act as a Screen
  326.       Saver without locking the system, by choosing the "Screen Saver only
  327.       mode" in the Configuration dialog box.  Screen blanking will be
  328.       automatically turned on as well.
  329.    *  This version prevents timeouts while you are working with an MS-DOS
  330.       application during a Windows session.  Timeouts can only now if you
  331.       are inactive in any MS-DOS window as well.  To prevent timeouts in
  332.       MS-DOS windows, you must install a special memory resident program
  333.       called METZKW.SYS.
  334.   *   You can now double-click on the METZ Lock prgram icon with either
  335.       mouse button to activate lock.
  336.   *   Previously, if the Screen blanking option was turned off, the Lock
  337.       dialog box always remained visible, potentially interfering with
  338.       other Screen Savers installed on your system.  Now, the Lock dialog
  339.       box disappears after 20 seconds, and reappers whenever a key is
  340.       pressed or the mouse is moved.
  341.  
  342. Version 1.3
  343.   *   The Lock and Hide command line options can now be configured in the
  344.       METZ Lock section of your WIN.INI file:
  345.       [METZ Lock]        - METZ Lock WIN.INI section header
  346.       hide=Y             - hides the METZ Lock program icon

  348.   *   Lock now always remains in the foreground, even if another
